On Tumblr Activity
As of right now I follow 330 people on Tumblr, and this fact surprised me a little. For a long time I was well under 100, but that count has crept up significantly in the past year or so.
What’s more surprising to me is how active the people I follow are. I’ve gone through and cleaned house a little — unfollowing inactive people — once or twice in the past four years, but it’s not something I pay much attention to, since an inactive Tumblr user is just an invisible Tumblr user.
Even so, the community I’ve built up over the years is phenomenally active.
With a quick little script yesterday evening I learned that half — half —of the 330 people I follow had posted something within the past day, and more than 75% had posted within the past week.
When you consider how quickly people tend to move on to the next shiny thing that’s put in front of them online, that level of continued activity is mind-blowing.
